Inter-Agent Protocols and the Future of Trust

Abstract: The previous publications in this series established the death of the Search Engine Results Page and the emergence of Agentic Recommendability as the new metric for digital visibility. This third foundation paper addresses the question that follows logically: when autonomous agents replace human decision-making, how do agents from different ecosystems establish trust with one another? The answer lies in what we term the Sovereign Execution Layer: a protocol architecture where agents negotiate, verify, and finalize transactions without human intervention.

The Inter-Agent Negotiation

The word "search" no longer describes what occurs when a user requests a service. In the agentic architecture emerging from Meta's Superintelligence Lab, a user's request initiates a negotiation between two distinct agent classes: the Planner Agent and the Verification Agent.

The Planner Agent operates on behalf of the user, identifying candidate providers. The Verification Agent operates as an independent auditor, validating that a candidate provider can fulfill the stated requirement. This separation of concerns ensures that the entity that proposes a transaction does not also validate it.

Machine-Readable Reputation

The 14.7 trillion tokens processed by Manus before the Meta acquisition created a baseline for Agentic Common Sense. This corpus enables Verification Agents to detect inconsistencies between claimed authority and demonstrable capability. Unlike human users influenced by testimonials, Verification Agents cross-reference structured data against known patterns.

When inconsistencies emerge, the agent does not flag a warning; it simply excludes the provider from consideration. Machine-Readable Reputation is therefore an infrastructure requirement demanding that your digital presence must be testable.

The Fulfillment Finality

The agentic layer introduces categorical Finality. When a Verification Agent confirms valid JSON-LD and a successful API path test, the recommendation locks. The user receives a single, verified provider. There is no comparison shopping at the point of recommendation; the agent has already compared and selected.

Conclusion

The Sovereign Execution Layer represents the maturation of agentic commerce. Optimization in this environment is not about improving position on a list, but about surviving the verification process to avoid invisibility.
